LIV Golf Stars Commit to Staying Put! Rahm, DeChambeau, Smith React to Koepka's PGA Tour Return (2026)

In a surprising turn of events, Brooks Koepka has made his way back to the PGA Tour after his time with LIV Golf, but don't anticipate other prominent figures from the Saudi-funded league to follow suit. During a preseason press conference on Tuesday, notable players such as Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, and Cameron Smith expressed their commitment to remain with LIV Golf, firmly distancing themselves from any notion of returning to the PGA Tour.

"I was completely taken aback by Brooks's decision; I had no clue that would happen," DeChambeau remarked when discussing Koepka's departure. "I didn't know what the repercussions would be either. At this moment, I have a contract with LIV Golf, and I'm excited about what we can accomplish this year."

Smith, who captured the title at the 2022 Open Championship just before he officially signed with LIV, also reiterated his dedication, stating, "I've made the choice to spend more time at home, and I'm not willing to give that up. I plan to be part of LIV for many years to come."

Interestingly, while both DeChambeau and Smith made the switch to LIV in 2022, Rahm's decision to join the league in December 2023 came as a shock, especially considering his previous vocal criticism of LIV. In August 2024, he put to rest any speculation about having regrets regarding his move, telling Fox News Digital, "I have no intention of leaving. My thoughts are very much aligned with what Bryson said. I wish Brooks all the best, but my focus remains on LIV Golf and my team this year, and my goal is to help us become champions again."

Koepka's announcement to leave LIV came shortly after he shared his intentions on social media. He expressed gratitude towards his family and team for their unwavering support throughout his career, stating, "As a child, I always dreamed of competing on the PGA Tour, and I'm thrilled to announce my return today. Being closer to home and spending more quality time with my family adds immense significance to this opportunity."

In a heartfelt message, Koepka reflected on his journey, acknowledging the exciting changes within the PGA Tour under new leadership, fresh investors, and an equity program designed to provide players with a genuine stake in the organization. He recognized that his decision would involve financial penalties, which he is prepared to accept.

Looking ahead, Koepka revealed plans to participate in upcoming tournaments, including the Farmers Insurance Open and the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Meanwhile, PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp indicated that Koepka's comeback has prompted the establishment of a Returning Member Program, aimed at accommodating players who previously left the tour and might consider following Koepka's lead.

However, it’s worth noting that Koepka agreed to certain conditions upon rejoining the PGA Tour. These stipulations include a significant five-year forfeiture of potential equity in the Tour’s Player Equity Program, which could result in losses estimated between $50 million to $85 million based on his competitive performance and the Tour's growth. Moreover, Koepka plans to make a generous $5 million donation to a yet-to-be-determined charity as part of his return.

In essence, Brooks Koepka has become the first player to transition back to the PGA Tour after his stint with LIV Golf, marking a pivotal moment in professional golf. This development raises questions about the future dynamics between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf. How will the landscape of professional golf evolve from here?
